James,

Maybe they do not know that the site could be made easier. Yes, I could use
it, as could you, but if it helps others in the future, maybe it is worth
pointing out the problem. They may do nothing, but it only takes a few
minutes to ask?

I know it is not a major issue, but I will point it out and see if anything
happens.

David

Cobolt aren't the only site to deploy methods like this, and quite honestly
it would slow me down to contact them to complain about it. I'd rather just
get on with my online shopping experience, but that's just me.

You're right. It's not good practice to use link text like this. As
you say, it assumes that everyone is using a mouse, when evidently many
people are not. That goes for mobile users, as well as screen reader and
keyboard only users of course.

The repetitive text at the start of each link not only makes it
impossible to use link selection techniques with a screen reader, it also
makes it difficult to visually distinguish one link from another. This can
be particularly problematic for people with reading difficulties.

It's also inefficient. It takes longer to read each link, whether
you're scanning it visually or listening to it with a screen reader.
Browsing should be quick, easy and as simple as possible. Although only a
minor inconvenience, all that extra text really doesn't support the user as
they try to complete their goals.

Léonie.

Hi all,

We have all become accustomed to poor design with regard to the
inaccessibility of websites, but you would think by now that those
specifically for visually impaired people would have some idea of good and
bad practice.

I have had cause to use Cobolt systems website of late and, although it is
not at all difficult to find your way around, it has one very basic and, to
me, infuriating problem. all the links say "click to online shop" or "click
to news page". firstly, most of us do not mouse click at all, but, much
more importantly, if all links say click to, which is totally unnecessary,
this means you cannot look for the online shop by searching for links
beginning with the letter o.

I intend to write to Cobolt and see what they have to say, but I do wonder
if this annoys others or should we just make the best of the situation? To
my mind, this could be put right fairly easily, and I can't believe that no
one has yet pointed it out to Cobolt.

any comments?

David
