Jillian,
        Can you not go into ad/remove programs and uninstall the last update, 
then
tell your computer never to upgrade again? I believe MS has no support for
Windows 98, so why you have updates automatically installed onto your system
is beyond me.
Alternatively, check your specs and see if you can manage Windows 2000 or
XP, keeping in mind that your screanreader might need an upgrade to that OS.
Window eyes are pretty good that  way, so maybe you just need an upgrade to
a more updated OS?
