I think I had this after installing something like Kurzweil ...

Interestingly, at boot up, the volume still seems to be at the same
higher level then about 1 minute further into the booting process the
volume suddenly noticeably dips and I think the sound possibly becomes a
little more muffled too.

The volume on my computer seems to have gone down without me doing
anything. Now I have to have the volume dial moved much higher than
before to get the same volume.

I've looked in Volume Control and all the sliders are at 100%.  Is there
anything else I can do?
