Carol, I bought a Seagate 300GB external drive from Maplins a few months ago
for about £89; so far no problems -

Subject: [access-uk] REPLACEMENT EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE - ABOUT 150 GIG

| Hi,
|
| I have an external Maxtor hard drive, now about six years old, which has
| been well used etc. and has now failed so badly that I don't even dare to
| try to reformat to re-use anyway.
|
| First, can anyone advise how I reformat it (or remove all its contents
| securely) because when I tried to reformat (really to remove contents) I
was
| told it could not be formatted. I want to be sure to destroy all its
| contents once and for all!
|
| Second, has anyone purchased an external hard drive recently and what
would
| you recommend?
|
| Thanks, as always, for any input.
