James, only remembered it cause I only read it Friday night! Before that it was hit and miss for me when using the cursor!

Hi Marie & Amro
I'm really sorry for not mentioning the cursor. It completely slipped my mind as I've ben a Mac user since VO first hit the market.

Hi Marie,

1. in addition to what James said about reading by character I strongly recommend to any Apple newbie reading the article (The Insertion Point and VoiceOver on the iPhone) at

http://maccessibility.net/guides/iphone/insertion-point/

Snip-
"A question frequently poised by new VoiceOver users who are newcomers to the iPhone regards the way in which VoiceOver handles the movement of the insertion point through text. If you are a Mac user, the procedure is largely the same as you are already used to with OS X. For Windows users, it will likely be a bit different from what you are accustomed to. To help new users, we're providing this guide..."
Snip ends

I certainly before reading this article was very baffled.

2. To select a text and delete it do the following. Locate the Insertion Point at the beginning of the text you want to select/delete. Now again from the Rota choose Edit and then swipe one finger upwards/downwards to choose either select all or select. Make your selection by single tabbing the screen twice. Now the text in question should be highlighted and you can delete it by pressing the delete button on the virtual keyboard.

Another way to select a text too is to do an opening motion with two fingers when you're in an edit field that is editing. Do a closing motion to deselect.

Amro

How do I read letter by letter?
If the IPod works the same as the Iphone, then you can use the Rota to change between reading by letter or word while editing a message or an E-Mail etc. To use the Rota you need to put your thumb and first finger together so that they form a circle and make a circling motion as if you are turning a dial. You should then get the option of editing by letter or word. you can then stroke up or down to go forwards and backwards by letter or word in an edit field.

Hi Peter, Thanks for your input, I managed to turn auto-correct and auto-caps off, now, How do I read letter by letter? how do I delete a whole word at a time? Is it possible to untick remember my username I ticked by mistake? perhaps I should join the VI IPod list, anyone got the address to subscribe please?
Cheers now,
Marie

No can't set this through the PC. As for checking if the iphone is using capital or lower case letters, it should speak whether they are capitals or not so just cursor through the password on the unit to see whats been input.

Thanks for the tip, will try to find a pair of eyes to check for me, I know that all the letters of my routers' key security code are in lower case as I specifically asked for this info when a kind soul dictated it to me. Can I set this from the PC through the IPod settings I wonder, another avenue to try...Not giving up on this yet...As for subscribing to the hotspots around here...the information is quite difficult to find but I'll persevere.

Cheers now

Hi, if I remember rightly I know my iphone automatically puts a capital letter at the start of the password, but not the rest of the characters and most of the router default security keys are in capitals so check that.

I can type the security key in the right place in the appropriate menu on the device without problem but get the message unable to connect. I've checked the WIFI switch is on on the IPod, checked with a sighted person that my Braille version of the security key is correct and WIFI is enabled on the router as I use this without problem with my laptop. The IPod can see 2 other WIFI networks, both unsecured, one identified as SFR my internet provider and the other just called a public hotspot. However, when I try to connect they both require a username and password. Can't these sort of hotspot be used free of charge, is this the type found in airports and train stations? Has anyone got a clue why I can't connect to the router?
any pointers/comments more than welcomed.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers now,
Marie
