You can here a short piece on the World at One via Listen again on the
two latest digital station shutdowns and comment from a BBC
spokeswoman re. BBC7's part, or not, in OneWord's demise. Also some
interesting figures on running costs of DAB channels and the sort of
advertizing revenue these stations expect has been revealed on the UK
Radio list.

Five Live is chattering away in its inimitable way too, though I've
not bent an ear to it as yet.

It may be that digital radio will cater to a significant minority
given that radio is a pretty minority interest even in the UK where,
thankfuly, we are still served by some notion of non-mass market
programming, and a mass market' is definitely what the commercial
boys and girls want.

Amongst the factors effecting DAB's less than 'mass' reach, internet
streaming is mentioned as a probable better bet for reaching larger
audiences. Well, and to bring things a bit more on topic, at least
that is in large measure accessible to us, even if it doesn't embrace
very readily the ability to rome and listen.

Cheers,

I just heard on the midday news on Radio4 that the group who own
Clasic fm are going to close there 2 dab only stations namely THe Jazz
and Planet Rock. I don't listen to Planet Rock, but will greatly miss
The Jazz.
