I had heard they were not widely supported yet. I was lucky with this
Toshiba laptop as it has one of each type of slot. Gives me the best of
both worlds i suppose.

And just to add, the new smaller PCMCIA cards are called PC Express Cards.
Dell seems to be using this new type of PC cards with many of their laptops
now. I'm not sure but I think it was Dell itself which developed this new
type of PC cards. In any case, from my experience with my brother's Dell
laptop, the PC Express card slots are a real pain. They're not widely used,
and when I tried to find an adapter for my brother to use his external
PCMCIA soundcard, I could only find one place online which was selling the
adapters for about £70/£80; stupid price. Why do they keep changing things
that are working just fine? *Frown*

Gordon,

There are two lengths of pcmcia card. The old one is about as long as the
width of your hand. The new one is only half the length and has a different
connector on its edge. The two have different slots for them, of course.

If the card is sticking out by half its lengththen it is probably a long
card in a short slot.

Hi
Recently I bought a 1000 mbit network PCMCIA card for my laptop but I can't
get it fully into the slot. Should I push harder, is there a way to get full
access to the slot or is this not the correct kind of card for this
expansion slot in my Del XPS1210?
Any help gratefully received.
