I've often had mailboxes get corrupted in Outlook Express. For that reason, when the message pops up and asks if I want to consolidate my emails, condense them or whatever the message says ... I always say yes now and this seems to solve the issue. It happens if you have a lot of traffic, so, if you're perhaps a subscriber to a few high traffic email lists. The way to get them back again is terribly difficult. I had to find a text editor which specialised in this and I had to interrogate the corrupt file in the folder directly.
