Hi Jackie.Alas, the cartridges in the HP use a different filter mechanism, you have to use the printer's own head and toner maintenance operations which I did at the time, however I'll bare your suggestion about Samsung printers and those shops you mentioned in mind. We have a staples in town so I may just saunter in to town tomorrow and see what they have.
Thanks for all your help and I'll be sure to let you know how things turn out.

Hi Ibrahim What I do if my letters or other documentation start going a bit flaky is to take the drum out of the machine and shake it gently so that any toner filters through. You would be surprised how much more you can get out of it by doing that ... The stuff seems to go on forever! I like the Samsung because I don't have to keep removing the paper to print an envelope. The paper tray sits at the bottom and is completely encased, and the top tray pulls down to let me print labels and various size envelopes. PC World, Office World and Staples often have a range on show you can physically feel and look at. The first toner you buy is often less than the replacement you eventually order, but I take mine to Cartridge World to refill it. Yeah, I just wondered. I used an HP laser machine for a while, but the toner started to degrade meaning patchy and streaky print so I got rid of it. The machine itself was an HP1020 LaserJet which I picked up at a bargain of just 70 pounds. The cartridge replacement was going to cost me 65 so I decided to buy a whole new printer which is really why I'm asking for advice now. All the best and thanks for your input. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jackie Cairns" <jackie.cairns@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <access-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, January 30, 2009 1:04 PM Subject: [access-uk] Re: Laser PrintersHi Ibrahim I use a mono laser. It's a Samsung ML2151 which I've had about four years. It prints at 20 pages per minute and has two trays, one toholda whole ream of paper, and the other to do envelopes and labels. It runs on USB and Parallel, though I use it on USB. Before that, I had a Brother mono laser for years. When I was doingmyjournalism courses at college, I did get a cheap HP inkjet so I could work with colours as colour lasers were very big and expensive then. But I only ever used it when I had to do something say for a cover or magazine, and I gave it to my son who still uses it today. Colour lasers have diminished in size and price to what they were, butIguess it depends how much you will use it, and may well find that amonowill do the job for straightforward documents. Do you use a monochrome machine IE black and greyscale or do you haveacolour machine. When I returns this Lexmark, I may go for a laser again. ______________________________________________________________________ This email has been scanned by the MessageLabs Email Security System.
