[access-uk] Re: I-phone Voice

I think it probably only works if they too have signed up for messaging, but I'm not positive about that. I know it looks to see if the person (contact's details) are known and will decide whether the message has to be sent as an IMessage or an ordinary text through phone provider.

I've just updated the software on my Ipod and wanted to
know how I would send a message to friends who own a
Apple device. Do you have to send the message to their
registered e-mail address? This messaging feature sounds
like the Blackberry messaging.

Well Jackie, theoretically you can backup without having
to use that ITunes thing, but I've yet to find out that
this really works if you have mail other than an address
from Apple, and have a few more queries, so I am not
sure that you'd be completely happy there. Also, you
have to pay after the 5GB. Ah, they don't back up your
music either. There's a thing about ITunes music which
you can always get again that way but you have to pay
for something else to be able to do that if your music
has been purchased elsewhere.

However, IMessaging is good. You can send to anyone,
anywhere, free if they have an IMessage address; and if
not it will just be sent as a phone message.

You can get notifications pushed directly to the IPod
and, if you choose not to lock the screen to these
notifications, you'll hear if you get a message.

There are a lot of voice enhancements but probably not
too many of which I'm really aware right now.

I realise I'm not doing too well with this message and
can only say it's because of the time of night and
really there's a lot more good stuff that I just can't
even think about right now. No doubt others will chip
in.

I'm glad I've upgraded.

Sorry I've come in late or missed this thread, but what
are the enhancements of the new update if I were to do
this on my iPod Touch? As it stands, I am happy with
the female. I wish it was Alex speaking, but Apple
obviously decided blind people only cope with Daniel et
al or something. Is it seriously worth upgrading just
to have to faff about changing that cruncher to another
voice? What are the real enhancements in the Touch,
does anyone know please, voice aside?

Kind Regards,

Jackie Cairns

Still can't find the Irish or South African voices.
There's another setting which I recall seeing yesterday
for English, English US etc but can't remember where I
saw it. Maybe this needs an adjustment to get these
voices working ...

Any ideas?

Hi Sharon.

Unfortunately the new voice that is used for British
English is Daniel, Serena has been retired from active
service. You have the option of an Australian English,
Irish and South African voices as well as the original
US English voice which is Samantha. You can change the
voice by going in to settings/general/accessibility
then voice over, language rotor and selecting the
languages you want to have available to you.

All the best, Ibrahim.

Subject: [access-uk] I-phone Voice

Hi,

I have just upgraded my I-phone 4 to the IOS 5 and now
my voice has changed to Daniel. Is it possible to get
the original female voice back, the one I had before
the upgrade, and if so, how do I do it.

Many thanks.

Sharon
