A matter of opinion Iain. I have far more important things going on in my life
than the need for an hourly update on the news and the weather forecast is a
sick joke. Our local radio station is about a mile from here and they gave a
forecast of currently brilliant sunshine and light breezes, It was teeming down
in torrential rain and force 6 wind. They were snowed under with calls and the
excuse was the announcer is in a windowless room.

Both devices might not be necessities' but I would argue they are rather more
than just toys.

I agree Barry, it gives me far better radio listening than I could ever achieve
on DAB here. We like the idea of having a news briefing if we’ve missed
something on the hour. What I also find very useful is being able to ask Alexa
for weather info and the time without looking for my phone. I am looking
forward to making a comparison of the two devices.

Aside from everything else it does, I would say that just for the voice
activated radio alone, the £50 for the Amazon Dot is worth it.

I really like the idea of this or the Amazon Echo but I’m not sure I could
justify the cost as most of what it does I can do with my IPhone.
