Hi Carol.

Personally I'd stick with Linksys.

I have a linksys wrt54g wireless broadband router here and I use it on my wi-fi network here in the house in combination with a linksys repeater to boost the signal because places where the laptop often travels too within the house have blackspots thus making the signals at times low.

Although network hardware manufacturers are getting and have gotten much better over the past two years or so at making products work together I'm still of the mind set of uniformity when it comes to hoem networking gear.

I am a fan of Linksys though it is fair to say for several reasons.

1. When using adaptive technology this is very important, the setup page for their router that of course you use yoru web browser to access is 100% accessible. Standard web element controls, standard windows controls, reads wonderful with hal, window eyes or jfw.

3. The Linksys WRT54g has a Linux Kernal at the centre of it's firmware, so security wise it's very very very very robust!

Remember.

Dont' use the setup cd's set it up manually, it's very simple to do.

Always always always always once your networks up and the machines are communicating enabled security!

I was in the states for a month there and had my laptop and was abel to jump onto the upstair neighbours unprotected network and utalise their bw to get email. Now if I was of a mind I could have snooped their shared drives on the network and even used a few tools to access their c drive, and it's really as simple as control panel, network, wireless network connection, view wireless networks within range, connect if your unprotected.

I quickly scanned your mail Carol so forgive me if I dont' cover everything here I've a chicken sandwitch calling me from downstairs hehehe.

Hi all,

At present we have an NTL Cable setup, with their provided router,
together with a wired Linksys router and Linksys wireless access point.
We are thinking we need to get rid of some of the many cables we
currently have around and make connections as easy and seamless between
our PC's and PDA's as we can. I've been put off Belkin before because
we had a hub that just wouldn't work with my PC (think I've changed PC
since) and I notice that PC World is mostly Belkin these days.

I am now looking for suggestions about what router I should buy,
together with an appropriate card for my PC. We already have a Netgear
MA701 and Ambicom WL1100C-CF card which we have had working with PDA's
but not with my current system recently.

We do have a £20 PC World (Dixons, Curries) voucher which we'd like to
use up, but not if we're likely to have a big hassle if we go Belkin.
Whatever we do, we need to know that everything will be OK with our
current NTL router. (Getting them involved would be suicide!)

Any suggestions or help with this one would be most welcome.
