Yup, once you start using unformatted cells you have to format new one's,
you shouldn't have to do the lot again, just what you need to in order to
add what you want correctly

Another question though - should I be able to get into the Format/Cells
dialog when just focused in one cell from that column? Because when in cell
J1, which says in it "Phone No", pressing Enter on Format/Cells does
nothing. So I selected the entire column, then followed the steps below -
which has worked. But the problem is, if I add more data below the point I
selected to, the problem with the numbers being miswritten/misread by JAWS
reoccurs. Does this mean every time I add another row of data I have to
format the cells again? I think I must be missing something...?

Hi Catherine,
The quick and dirty way to sort this is when you are entering the telephone number. Precede it with a single quote, which will tell Excel to display it exactly as input.
Otherwise you can format the cell, or cells, and select the format you want.
In this case, highlight the column of telephone numbers.
From the Format menu, select "Cell".
Make sure you are on the "Number" tab. Go down the Category list and select "Text". Press O.K.

Hello all,
In an Excel sheet I want one column to be for people's phone numbers. So far I've just put 1 phone number in, I wrote 08453978193. But when I cursor to it with JAWS it really sounds like JAWS is saying "Eighty plus zero nine". But if I press F2 to edit it the only wrong thing is that the 0 is missing from the beginning.
So a couple of questions:
1. How can I make it keep the 0 at the beginning? I thought this would be something to do with format. But when I went into the Format menu and pressed Enter on Cells, no dialog appears and nothing seems to happen. Why is this?
