[access-uk] Excel question

Hi,

In an excel sheet someone's given me one of the cells has Dec-04 written it.
I wanted to edit it so I pressed f2, but then it says 01/12/04.  How come it
says Dec-04 when just moving through the columns but when I press f2 it says
01/12/04?
