I've now done more experimenting and know what the Amazon problem was. I remembered that I have to go into the Tools Menu and turn "Active X Filtering" on if I want to use Youtube or the BBC Iplayer but I have to ensure that it is turned off if I want to listen to such as capcha images on Ebay to send a message. I'm sure that at one time this was not necessary but now,for whatever reason, it is. I have now turned it off and gone back to Amazon and the search editfield now opens up for use as it should. Problem solved!

Perhaps this will help anyone else having this problem.

John.
