You need to look for Alexa in the app store, then sign with your Amazon
credentials when you have downloaded it. Once you have done that, you follow
the prompts on Echo and the app to get her set up.
Hope that gets you going!
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Yes, but I have yet to work out what I do before that stage. Is the App just
called Alexa? Have you tried Apple and Android or just one?
I'm unable to spend much time at the computer at present and now have over 1
thou messages to sift through, so forgive me wanting answers without looking
too far myself.
I hope you are having a good time at the BCAB weekend.

Hi Carol
There is a button you can press to turn it on or off. The key word is
"Alexa," so if she hears her name, that wakes her up if turned on. I have
had her reading the Guardian for me this morning, and some of what she seems
to do is very helpful. If you can get the Skills added that you want, then
the app becomes less of a necessity.
I will have more time to play at home next week.
Kind regards,
Jackie Brown

Can you tell when the microphone is on/off, apart from remembering?

I can tell you about the buttons on the top. The one with a dot on it
turns
on the Echo and turns it off when pressed once more. The other button is
on
and off for the microphone.

Subject: [access-uk] Alexa questions
I have now got my Echo up and running, though I did find the app to be a
bit
unresponsive to start with. By that, I mean that I was able to connect her
to WiFi, but the app was extremely sluggish for a good while.
I have a few questions to ask about the unit in general, if someone would
be
kind enough to give me a few pointers:
1. I have asked her some pretty basic questions so far, but how do you
clear the search history from the screen of the app?
2. Having had only a very short play this afternoon, what do the buttons
on
top of the unit do? I am assuming the left button is for on/off?
3. Does anyone know of an accessible Alexa UK user guide?
I apologise if these questions have been asked in one form or another
already.
Kind Regards,
Jackie Brown
