Terminology VU: Volume Up VD: Volume Down CU: Channel Up CD: Channel Down SM: Serviceman Mode Entering serviceman mode Serviceman mode (SM) can be entered in two ways, Remote Method and Other Method (back of case open). Remote Method In SET-UP icon, set antenna to CABLE In TIMER icon, set sleep timer to 30 Exit menus and tune to channel 124 Adjust volume to 0 Press volume down (VD) on control panel and red 'CHK' will appear in the upper left corner To toggle between Serviceman and Aging Modes press Action and VD on the control panel Other Method Short test point FA1 to cold ground FA2 (A-board: TP pin 8 to pin 3) Receiver is in Aging Mode with yellow 'CHK' in the upper-left corner Press Action and VU on the control panel and 'CHK' should be in red The set is now in Serviceman Mode, of which there are five (5) separate Serviceman Modes: 'B' VCJ Sub Adjustments 'C' W.B. Adjustments 'D' Pincushion Adjustments 'S' Options Adjustments 'CHK' Normal use of VU/VU and CU/CD buttons (no adjustments can be made) Use the Power button on the remote to switch between these modes Accessing and Modifying the Service Adjustments Once you have selected one of the four adjustments modes use the CU and CD buttons to move between settings. These unknown settings should not be changed! Checking Purity When in non-adjustment SM (red 'CHK' in upper-left corner) press the Recall button on the remote to cycle between color modes: White Red Green Blue Normal Exiting serviceman mode Enter the non-adjustment SM (red 'CHK' in upper-left corner) and press and hold the Action and Power buttons on the control panel for at least 2 seconds. The receiver will shut off and turn back on to cable channel 3 with a preset sound level. All programmed channels, caption data and other user-defined settings will be erased. Other models For Panasonic TX-W28R3 (and similar models) The remote control is used for entering and storing adjustments, with the exception of cut-off adjustments which must always be done prior to service adjustment. Perform adjustments in accordance with screen display. The display on the screen also specifies the CCU variants as well as the approximate setting values. The adjustment sequence for the service mode is indicated below.
