Ok, Got a really weird problem with a Citrix Metaframe XPa FR2 server farm. The servers are just standard Dell Poweredge 1650's. Dual P3 1.4g, 40g Raid Mirror running Win2k SP3. We have twice had this problem occour where the servers all of a sudden just grind to a halt. Although the keyboard & mouse on the console might respond, to try and login to this server just times out even on the console. Below is a incident report outlining exactly what happened in the first occasion: NB: We had an EXACT replication of this error again yesterday evening and once again there is no evidence in the logs except the same Event ID 5783. Microsoft also doesn't have anything in technet on this issue (Go figure). Any ideas?? Ryan McBride - - On Wednesday 27/11/02 at around 5.15pm, both two Citrix servers of the Lane Cove farm had to be rebooted. This report describes the events as far as I understand them at this time. Chronological description of incident The event log on CITRIX02 shows that users started to get disconnected from the server at 4.33pm 4.33 xxxx 4.36 xxxx 4.55 xxxx 4.59 xxxx 5.00 xxxx 5.03 xxxx 5.04 xxxx At 4.34pm, the server lost communication with the domain controller: EVENT LOG: Event ID 5783: The session setup to the Windows NT or Windows 2000 Domain Controller \\(XXXX <\\(XXXX> ) for the domain XXX is not responsive. The current RPC call from Netlogon on \\CITRIX02 <\\SFPDW1CX02> to \\(XXXX <\\(XXXX> ) has been cancelled. The symptoms were that the user sessions would slow down until they completely freeze over a period of a few minutes, then the session would get disconnected. Restarting the terminal would not let them log back on again, the logon window would just be displayed and would not go further. After I realized that my own session had frozen and that I could not get to CITRIX02 using the management tools from another server, I went to the server room and tried to log on the console, I could not log on either, the window displaying "Loading your settings" stayed for several minutes and I could not get to the console. Then after having estimated that I could not get control of the server and that all user sessions were dead, I rebooted the server, this was done at 5.11pm: On server CITRIX03, user sessions started to get disconnected at 5.06pm: 5:06 xxxx 5:07 xxxx 5:13 xxxx 5:17 xxxx 5:23 xxxx 5:25 xxxx 5:29 xxxx 5:30 xxxx 5:30 xxxx 5:32 xxxx Being made aware of the problem while trying to reconnect users who couldn't log onto CITRIX03, I judged that the symptoms were very similar to the first server and went to the server room, then tried to log onto the console with no success. I then rebooted the server at 5:39pm: Both servers after the reboot haven't shown any problem and have been up and running since with users being able to log on and work normally. The application & system logs don't show any other evidence of problems except the eventlog reporting a unexpected shutdown when we had to manly powercycle the server. The exact problem happened again ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT NOTICES This email (including any documents referred to in, or attached, to this email) may contain information that is personal, confidential or the subject of copyright or other proprietary rights in favour of Aristocrat, its affiliates or third parties.
