There has been some informal discussion about the age restrictions for the upcoming Israeli dancing event.. Apparently, some folks felt that it should be open to everyone, where as the organizers wanted to restrict it to those over age 12. I fully concure with the need for some age restrictions. This is certainly not an event for toddlers and pre-schoolers, for instance. Most children in the early primary grades would also have difficulty with the dances. Children that young would just run around and make learning impossible for those who want to learn. On the other hand, we have several children in our community who are under 12 but are very capble of participating appropriately in this activity. Rebecca, Jesse Rothman, Zack KatzStein, Miriam Barcus, and Marissa Lite are all, I believe, under 12, (or maybe just turned 12 recently) but might appriciate and enjoy this activity. I have taught a few dances to religious school students over the years (including the group we now have), and, if it's done carefully, everyone does well. Although they might not catch all the steps perfectly, they are capable of learning a lot and enjoying, which, I think, should be the first requirement. Might I suggest lowering the age cut off to 8 or 9? That way, the kids who want to participate can, and those for whom it would be inappropriate would be disuaded. Johanna
