Dear West Kent ARS members and friends, I am below forwarding a DRM update that
I originally sent out yesterday.
While todays ISS contact has past their will be more in February, but from
initial reports it appears many amateurs were listening in, as we do, and the
event has again made it onto national media.
While writing, I remind members that subs are due this month, which for
individuals remains at £25 and families at £35.
As we start this new year for memberships, we would be very pleased to have new
members join or re-join the club. Either reply to me directly
keithlbird@xxxxxxx or see our club website for details www.wkars.org.uk
The next meeting of West Kent ARS is this Monday the 11th of January, I hope
you may be able make it.

On Thursday the 21st of January, the Bredhurst Receiving & Transmitting Society

asked me to share this information with other clubs and amateurs in Kent, who
are warmly invited to attend and hear this presentation.

Principia Mission - Tim Peake on the ISS.
A schedule for the first four schools to establish contact with Tim Peake on
the ISS via amateur radio has been published, with the first contact scheduled
for this Friday AM the 8th of January.
The Hilderstone club at Broadstairs working with pupils and staff at the
Wellesley House School, was successfully selected as one of just 10 schools in
the UK for this memorable event, though a final schedule is not guaranteed and
is dependant upon other activities in the work program of the ISS astronaut.
Meanwhile club members attended the Wellesley House School to watch the launch
event along with the pupils and staff, who are excited by the event and the
focused work done by members of the Hilderstone club to talk with them about
space and amateur radio.
The following link to the school website contains more details and insight to
the excitement the event has created.
