Peg:

The beheading of Tree Swallows and bluebirds is uncommon but predictable
in areas frequented by House Sparrows. I do not know of any other avian
predator other than HOSP's that behead songbirds in nest boxes. We found
a bluebird hen in her nest box yesterday, beheaded by a HOSP.

A friend of mine, newly interested in birds, found a beheaded tree swallow in
her nest box. The nest box is appropriately baffled. Any insight on how this
may have happened? Thanks for your help.
