A couple weeks ago a mallard hatched 11 little ones. Two days later she was gone and one remained in our pond. Each day she comes in and visits. The solo duck is growing and seems to hang near the pair of geese that are still trying to hatch a nest (which never will as they were oiled by golf course management this spring). Yesterday the female mallard was in the pond with 2 young the same size as the solo chick but the chick did not join the group. Is it possible the solo chick imprinted on the geese and that is why it remains?
