I don't know how often it was repeated or where the sound was coming from, but it could maybe match a red crossbill flight call (someone correct me if I'm wrong) since you said monotone. I suspect I've had them fly over and heard them multiple times, but I'm not confident in my ability to ID most birds by flight call. Another idea would be a red squirrel (try Youtube). They love especially red pines I think and make chirpy like cheep sounds and could easily go unnoticed. I'm sure there are many possibilities as a cheep could be just about anything, but those are two guesses. -Mike Duchek, Waukesha, Waukesha Co. > From: DRussell012@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx > To: wisbirdn@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [wisb] sound id > Date: Tue, 23 Aug 2011 14:56:47 -0500 > > Help with sound ID > I was visiting Hazelhurst/Minoqua area this week and in the very heavily > wooded area mostly pines, I continued to hear this constant cheep/peep sound > everyday. > Not really sure if it was even a bird. The sound came from the same area > everyday during day lite hours. > Several monotone cheep/peeps in a row. > Was amazed that there were very little bird sitings in this heavily wooded > area.
