Hi all, (dated 5-14-09) Wyalusing st.park this am. 5:50am just outside the gate: heard Hensow's sparrow at young walnut plantation right next to the road. Next stop parking lot at lookout point. Immediately heard and then saw Yellow throated warbler. Over the next ~1,5 hours saw all the park specialty warblers (Prothonotary, Cerulean, Kentucky, Yellow Throated). Additionally saw: Tennesee,Orange-crowned,Nashville,Yellow,Chestnut sided,Magnolia, Cape May, Palm, Bay-breasted, Bl&White, Redstart, Ovenbird, Yellow throat (17 spp.) Heard/saw many Yellow-throated Vireos, 1 Blue-headed, 1 Red-eyed, & many Warbling. Could swear I heard a "Pitza" once but not sure. 77 spp. there Went back home to Dodgeville and then down to Spring Green Nature Preserve. Saw Lark Sparrow but not much else. Horribly windy!! From there went in to Middleton and up to So. Colombia Co. On Schumacher Rd out of Waunakee found a small flock of Black Terns but nothing else. Over all the ponds between there and Goose pond didn't find squat. At the DM & I ponds found a bonanza of shorebirds on the muddy flooded field in the NE quadrant of the intersection. Positively ID'd SB Dowitcher, Stilt Sppr, both Yellowlegs, Pectoral Sppr, Least Sppr, "pretty sure ID's": Baird's & White rumped Sppr, Semipalmated Sppr. Also saw Pitpits and 1 Semipalmated Plover. At Goose Pond found 2 superb Black-bellied Plovers but nothing else besides the usual ducks. At Schoenberg's marsh water over road even higher than before. Heard Yellow-Headed Blackbirds but detected nothing else other than the usual ducks/geese. At Harvey Rd ponds found large mixed flock of terns. Obvious were Black & Forster's but some had very dark mantles and I really think they were commons All-in-all dissapointing #'s of shorebirds but fun day.
