Posted on Wisconsin Birding List on May 15th: Whooping Cranes had a record 12 nests (good) and then a record 12 out of 12 nests abandoned (not so good). .... I think they were able to rescue eggs from some of these nests. Update on May 8: The last pair of incubating whooping cranes abandoned their nest on May 3. The two eggs were retrieved from the nest and taken to the International Crane Foundation. On May 6, the eggs were transferred to the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Maryland. The chicks will become part of the ultralight-led Class of 2009. Update on May 14: Two pairs of whooping cranes that had abandoned their nests earlier this spring began renesting May 13th on the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge! Keep Looking Up!
