Someone posted on the Madison Audubon Society message board recently having seen some in Jefferson County too. Anyway, they had a record 12 nests (good) and then a record 12 out of 12 nests abandoned (not so good). They seem to think it's due to flies, but apparently they don't know for sure. However if I think they were able to rescue eggs from some of these nests. Per the blog, some of them left the refuge and some have not been recorded recently, but the USFWS has a form here for sightings: http://www.fws.gov/midwest/Whoopingcrane/sightings/sightingform.cfm For updates, visit OM's excellent blog: http://www.operationmigration.org/Field_Journal.html See the cute video link at the end of the latest post as well as photos of some chicks. -Mike Duchek, Madison, Dane Co. #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the WISBIRDN list.
