Hi all, I woke up this morning to a CAROLINA WREN singing loudly from the red cedar in our front yard. Just before I left for work I grabbed my binoculars to see if I could track down the bird. It had moved to the Lost City Forest and refused to perch in the open. It is nice to have a Carolina Wren back in the neighborhood. The severely cold winter 2 years ago wiped out local population. I also spotted an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER perched high up in a dead tree from the parking lot at the end of Martin Street. While eating dinner my wife and I saw 4 GREAT EGRETS fly by. I hiked Wingra Woods during the PM on the day Jim Schwarz found the Blue Grosbeak in the AM. I did not find the Blue Grosbeak, but did find a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER by the same spring.
