Marty Evanson and I (ably assisted by Pat Ready) led a Madison Audubon Warbler
Walk at Turville Point early this morning. As others have noted, it was really
active. The first 20 minutes or so were a bit slow, but once the sun popped
out, we were getting "warbler neck" pretty quickly. I didn't keep the list or
get a copy yet, but I'm guessing we had over 20 warblers.
Highlights included No. Parula, No. Waterthrush, Ovenbird, Blue-winged,
Cerulean, Cape May, Blackpoll, and a probable female Bay-breasted Warbler that
only I had a very distant view of, E. Wood-Pewee, E. Kingbird, Least and
Great-crested Flycatchers, multiple Scarlet Tanagers and Indigo Buntings, more
Baltimore Orioles than you could shake a stick at, plus a couple of male
Orchard Orioles, a Swainson's and another thrush that eluded us, plus Great
Horned Owl and flyover Cooper's Hawk for those of us who headed past the
prairie opening. Don't know what the folks who went all the way around the
point had (with a stiff breeze off the lake, it may have been a bit slower out
there.)
Great morning to be out - sure wish I could have stayed longer, but I was late
enough for work as it was...
