I just spent a family-centered long weekend in Oregon, but I was able to work in some good birding time every day. I was based in Eugene, so I was able to bird the Cascades Range around Sisters (WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKER, WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER, Pygmy Nuthatch, Mountain Chickadee, Mountain Bluebird, Townsend's Solitaire), the Coastal Range (Red-Breasted Sapsucker, Steller's Jay, Chestnut-Backed Chickadee, Red-Shouldered Hawk, McGillivray's Warbler), Fern Ridge Wetlands (tons of shorebirds, the best of which was PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER, and Western and CLARK'S GREBES), and the coast (foggy and very windy, kind of tough birding, though I did see Black Oystercatcher, Whimbrel, American Pipit, Surf and White-Winged Scoters, Common Murre, Rhinoceros Auklet, Pigeon Guillemot, and Western and Glaucous-Winged Gulls). A busy but very fun weekend, with four lifers (all caps above). The Clark's Grebe completed a grebe slam for the year for me!
