Hiked the completed break water circle at Terrell's Island (Lake Butte des Morts) yesterday. About 3.8 miles (I'm told) carrying scope and tripod. Bird activity was slow but did manage to find a pair of lingering DUNLIN and a flock of snow buntings estimated at 40-50 birds - they never sat still long enough to get a more exact count. Waterfowl activity was very slow - mostly coot (90+) with some mallards, ruddy ducks and bufflehead. Did not see any swan-like birds with black trailing edges on their wings - sorry Paul. I started out on the Orchard Trail because the map at the kiosk indicated it connected back to the main loop - not! Had to backtrack to the parking lot to get back on the loop. Note that there is nowhere to sit comfortably along this 3.8 mile loop - you need to find a good rock. I take that back - there were some chairs on the porch at the building near the end of my hike, so I sat there for a few minutes. There is a portable toilet at the main parking lot and also at the club grounds building area.
