I was somewhat surprised to note that most of the western half of Lake Monona was still open this morning - more than had been open on Monday. (And there was a fatality when someone foolishly tried to take his ice boat out off Monona yesterday.) Much of Lake Mendota is also still open, so it's possible the Barrow's GE may still be around. (I haven't had time to check - not sure if anyone else has.) With rain forecast (after snow and ice tonight and tomorrow morning) for Christmas Eve afternoon and into Christmas Day, I would expect the lakes to be largely open for the weekend, should anyone be in the mood to check them. They may freeze up pretty quickly early next week, though. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Christmas!
