I went out to the Smith's field. Twenty plus times a charm. A few people were
out there. Rowan spotted 2 Smith's get up near him. No one else got on them. As
we headed to an area where they might have gone, we noticed some longspurs
moving into the area. I clump counted 120. Rowan had come from that direction,
so I feel these were all new birds. In a group that was lower ,I got good light
and a good look at a male Smith's. The others birders had bad lighting, even
though it went over them. Kris and Greg headed over to where some landed. I
walked the rest of the area and didn't see another longspur.
When I got back to them ,the longspurs got up. Before they cleared the
horizon, I saw a Smith's tail in the bunch.
On the way back, I did walk through the first field . I didn't see any
longspurs, but it was a half hearted try.
