I spent much of the day hitting the bird haunts within Portage Co. The weather was favorable until the winds came around 1:30 PM and slowed things down. Target Species Missed: Hooded Merganser, American Bittern, Broad-winged Hawk, Red-shouldered Hawk, Great Horned Owl, Both Kinglets, Winter Wren and Hermit Thrush. Best birds: Rough-legged Hawk BVG 2. Warblers, 19 species. A good long list of 139 species -- second highest I've recorded in the county in one day. My record high is 143.
