I birded the Lakeshore Nature Preserve this morning from the Union to the Picnic Point marsh. I had some pretty nice birds including a Green-winged Teal (a new BIGBY bird) a Common Loon swimming withing 15 feet of the Union Terrace, about seven waterfowl species, and a passerine flock near the Picnic Point marsh that contained dozens of Am. Tree Sparrows (I also had one in my yard today for the first time) a Winter Wren, an Eastern Phoebe, two or three Yellow-rumped Warblers, and a CAROLINA WREN. I heard this bird before I saw it and actually thought it was someone playing a recording because of how incredibly loud and perfect the song was! Also had an animal that I at first thought was a giant squirrel but turned out to be a Gray Fox! At Forest Hill Cemetery I found 12 Pine Siskins, 40 Juncos, and a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker. Ho Nee Um had Gadwall and Shovelers, plus two Fox Sparrows. I certainly made the 20 species minimum today, and it was all on my bike!
