While we were at Zelowski this aft we had a nice variety of plovers. In particular Black-bellied and Am. Golden plovers in various stages of molt. We also had some juvies in there. Scoping the far north area Peter found 2-3 Am. Golden in almost full breeding plumage. Later I found a Black-bellied in breeding plumage. Then closer to us were several in about 1/2 transition plumage. Trying to figure these out took some skill. At that distance checking bill size is difficult. Vent color helped if we could see it when they were feeding in the stubble/grass. Not being real familiar with either species it was nice to study them although a tad bit closer would have been nice!! Good running into a few Milwaukee birders when we were over there. My quote of the day "You can really add to your year list when you get out and bird." Added 5 species today! :) Good birding & have a most migratory Labor Day!
