Ryan Sallmann and I went out to Paradise Valley WA near Dousman to see what
we could find at 5 PM at 39oF with a really unkind brisk wind that did die
down as we went.
We had N. Harriers, eagles, a hovering Kestrel, a flock of Bonapartes, a
group of Pelicans, the complimentary ducks, and Coots a-cooing.
As we're heading back, we were hoping for something different, maybe some
spring sparrows or wrens.
We were at the fork in the road to the ADA blind going back to parking lot,
and I ask Ryan if he heard that. what? That gunk-a-lunk sound!
As Ryan's trying to see if I'm yanking his gullibility, thank-the-goodness,
a few seconds later off goes the gunk-a-lunk sound, and every few seconds
repeats, so he was forced to believe me. We tried to see it, as it was
nearby in the cattails, but to no avail. So we started walking from the
fork back towards the parking lot. and as we went, so did the bittern,
unseen, gunk-a-lunking-along for a couple hundred yards right next to us.
soooo strange, but very interesting!
