Last spring we had a female cooper's take a female wood duck right at the
nest box. She was not able to fly off with it but spent quite a bit of time
on the ground feeding.

Hello,
A couple of months ago I had an immature cooper's kill and try to carry off
a HY ring-billed gull...it was entertaining to watch it drag its prize.
Several of our peacocks surrounded the bird as it mantled its victim. I
was quite surprised to find a cooper's with the gull...large prey item.
Has
anyone ever heard or seen this before?

I was looking out the window watching birds in the backyard this morning.
First there were at least 9 cardinals -- most I've seen lately. Then a
large pigeon showed up to eat some corn. It had stopped by a few days
earlier, also. I took a few photos and then looked down at the camera.
When I looked up again, the hawk had just captured the pigeon. After about
12 minutes of holding the pigeon in its talons, the hawk flew off to a more
seclude part of our yard with the pigeon. I was quite impressed that the
hawk could carry the pigeon as far as it did since that was not a small
load.
