Hi Folks, http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/vpa.htm Not sure if the word has gotten out, but WI now has over 25,000 acres of private land signed up in the Voluntary Public Access program. This program allows you to hunt, trap, fish AND.....wait for it......birdwatch! on these areas. Check out the website for your areas and stomping grounds. Especially with respect to the upcoming CBC season. Those of you familiar with Avon Bottoms may notice that there are now 700+ acres of access on recently restored grassland/wetland habitat open to the public. Find me a Baird's Sparrow there while you're at it....... DNR biologists and VPA staff would probably love to know what birds you find out there so make sure to eBird your adventure! I believe that there will also be survey forms on the sites, so make sure to fill them out and let them know that you were birding....even if you were also shooting pheasants at the same time.
