McKinley Marina remains a great spot for studying gulls this winter. More water has opened up, but ice remains between the piers. Today at noon I had a couple hundred gulls, most Herrings and Ringed-bills, but also with close views of the following gulls (all in adult plumage): two Lesser Black-backed, a Glaucous, four Thayer's, and a lovely Iceland (Kumlien's) with light gray stripes on its wingtips when at rest. All of these birds were on the ice or on the ends of piers on the west side of the marina.
