Good evening, yesterday was a very fun day. Finally had some sun and a
chance to get outside. I started at sunrise, and watched the Barred Owl for
a few hours. The Cooper's Hawks were harassing it again, but only for a few
minutes. Shortly after, four nuthatches and a couple chickadees were
harassing the Cooper's Hawk. I then headed, over to the Great Horned Owl
nest to see if the chicks were sticking their heads out, but they weren't.
The male wasn't in sight either, so I didn't stick around too long. I did
find a flock of 8 Pine Siskins, singing and feeding atop the pines. Also
watched a pair of Red-bellied Woodpeckers going in and out of a hole in a
tree.
After that, I received a call that there was an Eastern Screech Owl hanging
out of a tree, so I decided to check that out. It was a red morph and sure
blended in well with the tree. Numerous people, who were looking for it,
literally walked right past it, and never saw it. The sun was shining right
on the owl, showing off it's beautiful colors. The owl would occasionally
perk up and "trill", not sure if this is normal daytime activity.
Of the five county parks I was at, I saw lots (20+ of each) of
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, Golden- crowned Kinglets and Yellow-rumped
Warblers. Brown Creepers were abundant too. There were decent amounts of
sparrows as well. Every county park pond has at least one Belted Kingfisher
as well. I also had my FOY Hermit Thrush. Photos can be seen at the link
