Today there were at least 3 Little Gulls in Sheboygan. Two were first summer and the third was a second summer bird. They were just off the beach at Deland Park among many Bonaparte's Gulls. The first summer birds did not have an obvious dark carpal bar showing until they started preening, so they don't jump out at you like the birds in early May. You just have to search a little harder! Three Lesser Black-backed Gulls were moving around in North Point Park. Two were second summer and the third was a first summer bird. The Sheboygan lakefront is very popular so the birds get disturbed frequently and move around a lot. Perhaps morning is the best time to study the birds because there are fewer people using the lakefront. Also present were a late Semipalmated Sandpiper and Palm Warbler.
