The Wisconsin Society for Ornithology is closely monitoring a land development proposal adjacent to the Kohler-Andrae State Park. If accepted, this proposal will convert 247 acres of pristine Lake Michigan shoreline habitat and an intact forest remnant containing old-growth American beech trees into Sheboygan County's fifth golf course. An additional 32 acres of the existing Kohler-Andrae State Park land will also be developed to construct four holes of the golf course, thus shrinking the area of the State Park. This is an important migratory corridor for hawks, waterfowl, and other bird species. You can learn more about this issue at the Friends of Black River Forest webpage: http://www.friendsblackriverforest.org/index.html For those in the Sheboygan County area, please consider attending the informational meeting on June 29.
