and look for birds!
Vernon Marsh is a unique ecosystem in Waukesha County consisting of
approximately 5,000 acres of marshland, grassland, flowage, rivers, oak
savanna, and lowland forest. The Fox River runs through the property making
the marsh a vital connection between the Fox River, Mukwonago River, Pebble
Creek, and Mill Creek watersheds. It supports abundant wildlife including
frogs, turtles, furbearers, deer, and numerous bird species including
American White Pelicans, Trumpeter Swan, American and Least Bitterns, Black
and Forster's Terns, Willow Flycatcher, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Northern
Harrier, and numerous ducks.
DIRECTIONS: Our group will gather in the parking lot at the west end of
Benson Ave. on the east side of the wildlife area. We will If you are
coming from Mukwonago, take Hwy X north from Hwy ES/National Ave. Benson
Road will be on your left approximately 2 miles north of ES/National Ave.
From Waukesha, take Hwy X south from Hwy 59/Les Paul Pkwy. Benson Ave. will
be on your right about 4 miles south of Hwy 59/Les Paul Pkwy.
