Started the day at 6:00 a.m. listening for and hearing 2 great horned owls and 1 screech owl. Spent 4 hours birding, came up with 23 species. No rarities but several that I don't normally see around here in the dead of winter, 1 female harrier, 1 female brown-headed cowbird and 2 song sparrows. The harrier appeared to be migrating. Had a couple dozen horned larks with 1 snow bunting mixed in. Then spending the afternoon at home I kept an eye on the feeders and yard and saw 16 species including 2 life birds, 1 common redpoll and 1 Oregon junco. Unfortunately the pine siskens and female purple finch I had been seeing ever day for the past 5 days did not show.
