I birded my way from Redgranite to Horicon 49 & Auto-Loop this morning. I
tried Miller/A south of big Green Lake in Green Lake Co. first & was
surprised how many birds left overnight. Most of the Bonapartes Gulls &
most of the Pectoral Sandpipers were gone. Still saw several breeding
plumage Am. Golden Plovers tho.
Breezy/Jesey/A south of Fox Lake was dead except for a Great Horned Owl in
the stand of 3 Oak trees on the north side of Jersey Rd. just east of Mr.
Birds house. (at 8:30 a.m.) Oh and a Brown Thrasher.
We hit Oakwood pond 1/2 mile east of Hwy 151 S/W of Waupun next & saw 8
Pintails & 2 Wilson's Snipe, but no Black Necked Stilts.
Got the White Faced Ibis S/E side of the pumphouse on Hwy 49 in Horicon
marsh. That bird was fairly close to the road, tho a scope helped pick out
the white outline on the face. No other wow birds there but there were more
Pintails.
The Auto-Loop had quite a few artists painting landscapes along the trail.
We got Blue Grey Gnatcatchers, Ruby Crowned Kinglet, Hooded Megranser,
Sora, 2 Rusty Blackbirds, Trump Swans, Field Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow &
Yellow Headed Blackbird there.
Hit Hwy 23/KK just east of Ripon next and finally got my foy Black Necked
Stilts. 2 males.
Tried a pond on Cty Rd. XX between Berlin & Auroraville & had Trump Swans
there. That spot is just S/E of the Hwy's 49 & 21 in Waushara Co. that is
known locally as" the corners". Not much at the corners or the marsh on
Cottonville Road that parallels Hwy 21 on the north side (runs into
Auroraville).
Auroraville Millpond was dead. One B. Eagle, one Ruddy Duck, one DC
Cormorant. It's boat launch at Otto Brey park had a N. Flicker & a few
Cedar Waxwings.
