This morning I looked out the window at my backyard feeders near Washburn and was surprised to see only one bird in the entire yard. Grabbed the binocs and was happy to see it was a redpoll. Looked a little closer and holy cow it was a Hoary Redpoll! What are the chances? Ran outside in the frigid temps and snapped some photos. The bird never actually visited the feeders and took off after ~15 minutes, not to be seen again. Later in the day a flock of 20+ Common Redpolls showed up but the Hoary was not among them. Here's a gallery of 12 documentation images. Unfortunately the bird barely moved (turns out a Northern Shrike was nearby) so I did not get a photo of its mantle or rump. http://www.pbase.com/rbrady/hoaryfeb11 Some of the better ones for ID purposes: http://www.pbase.com/rbrady/image/132807912 http://www.pbase.com/rbrady/image/132807917 http://www.pbase.com/rbrady/image/132807908 Ryan Brady Washburn, Bayfield County, WI http://www.pbase.com/rbrady #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
