The Great Wisconsin Birdathon officially kicks off today, and from now until
June 15, birders all over the state will be counting species to raise money for
the Bird Protection Fund projects that protect bird habitat, recover endangered
species, and monitor bird populations in Wisconsin. This year the GWB aims to
raise $70,000 for our nine priority projects.
We hope everyone will consider joining or starting a team and participating in
the Birdathon this year. It can be an intense 24-hour birding blitz, or a
relaxed morning in the backyard or local park. The point is to get outdoors and
raise funds and awareness for Wisconsin's birds while practicing our favorite
hobby. Everything you need to start birdathoning is on our website,
WIBirdathon.org, including ideas for soliciting donations. No effort or
donation is too small!
You can also sponsor a birder or team, which are listed and mapped on the
website. Our Signature Teams, including some of the state's best-known and
most-beloved birders, will be making a special effort this year. There are
sometimes issues with posting links to the listserv, so I'll just say check out
our Signature Team lineup on the homepage, WIBirdathon.org:
Curlew and Screech
Cutright's Old Coots
Lake Superior eBirders
Lower Chippewa River Titmouseketeers
Madison Green Team
Motmotley Crew (of Horicon Marsh)
Secretary Birds
WSO Tessen Team
Birdathon on, everyone! Because life would be dismal if we didn't have birds.
