While scoping Lake DuBay this morning I had a single EARED GREBE swimming a few
hundred yards in front of the dike (I noted the slightly upturned bill, black
foreneck, peaked head, and feathery, fluffed plumes, etc). By the time I left,
the bird was swimming against the far northwest shoreline when I left and was
difficult to make out.Â
Other birds on the open water included: 3 COMMON LOONS, 6 HORNED GREBES,
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, CANVASBACK, BOTH SCAUP, COMMON GOLDENEYE, REDHEAD, and a few
other standard ducks.Â
The central dike trail yielded 15 RED CROSSBILL, a handful of COMMON REDPOLLS,
RUFFED GROUSE, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS among
others.Â
The pond on Dam Rd had BLUE-WINGED TEAL, RING-NECKED DUCKS, BUFFLEHEAD, and
WOOD DUCKS.Â
Good Birding!
