A surprisingly good birding morning in Peninsula State Park today. I was mostly
at Nicolet Bay boat ramp and campground, then Weborg Point Campground. In all,
I saw about 30 species. Most were expected, some of the surprises and first of
year birds for me were:
A Ruffed Grouse drumming on a log right in front of me. I haven't seen that for
some years. New to the areas were two Great Blue Herons, Four (!) Great Egrets
flying low over a marsh, , a Winter Wren, two Hermit Thrushes, about 8 Brown
Creepers, many more Yellow-rumped Warblers, the first larger showing of
Ruby-crowned Kinglets (Golden-crowned have been here in big numbers), a FOY
Pelican.
