Birded Vilas County yesterday in the strong south winds then headed to Ashland for an early birding day today. Greeted with 37 degrees and strong north winds spitting rain and snow at 4 a.m. Stayed cold most of the day, but a good day, especially in Ashland along the beach as shorebirds gathered to feed on insects and other stuff washed in on the waves. Great looks at a Willet, Dunlin and several gulls including a lesser black-backed that dropped in for a short visit before moving east. Also had great looks at an Arctic tern. Moved inland to Copper Falls and had to shed the coat. Warblers were good all along the road to the falls. 6 short-billed dowitchers fed right next to the road at Loon lake. Broadwing Hawks were also quite numerous. Interesting temperature contrasts today with Duluth's high of 43 contrasting to St. Paul's high of 97. -Daryl Christensen Marquette co Daryl and/or Sherry Christensen www.darylchristensen.com www.muirlandbirding.com #################### You received this email because you are subscribed to the Wisconsin Birding Network (Wisbirdn).
